Overview:
Zero Point Upadhye Foundation’s Child Nutrition & School Meal Support initiative aims to ensure that school-age children in Mahishawadagi and nearby communities receive at least one wholesome, hygienically prepared meal each school day. The program combines on-site meal provision with nutrition awareness for children, caregivers and school staff to encourage healthier eating habits.
What the program does:
- Provide balanced, locally-appropriate meals prepared with safe cooking practices in school kitchens or community feeding centers.
- Source ingredients locally where possible to support community livelihoods and ensure freshness.
- Conduct basic nutrition and hygiene education sessions for children and school staff, covering topics such as handwashing, portion sizes and healthy food choices.
- Maintain simple monitoring and quality checks for food safety and menu variety.
- Train school cooks/volunteers in safe food handling, storage and preparation techniques.
Use of donations:
Funds will be used to purchase fresh ingredients, cooking fuel, basic kitchen equipment and utensils, hygiene and sanitation supplies, and to support training sessions for cooks and volunteers. Donations also help cover logistical costs such as safe food transport and modest program monitoring to ensure meals are consistently wholesome and hygienic.
Why it matters:
Regular access to a nutritious meal during the school day supports children’s ability to concentrate, participate in classes and engage in learning. Coupled with simple nutrition education, the program helps build healthy habits that benefit children and families over time.
Location:
Activities are focused around Mahishawadagi (Behind Jain Temple, Tq. Athani, District Belagavi, Karnataka) and neighbouring hamlets, implemented in coordination with local schools and community volunteers.
Transparency and reporting:
Zero Point Upadhye Foundation is committed to clear, responsible use of donor funds and will provide regular updates to supporters about program activities, menu plans, training sessions and community feedback.
